Ek Balam Mayan Ruins
Ek Balam Mayan Ruins
+ Rio Lagartos

This tour is for you IF:
Your wish is to know more about Mayan history firsthand from a certified expert tour guide. They will educate you about many different periods of the existence of temples here. And if you want to climb a famous temple, you can be reassured, our guides will be with you every step of the way. This tour is for you.
On the top of the building known as The Great Acropolis, there is a large and very well preserved fresco showing the open jaws of a snake in great detail. You will hike from temple to temple and along the way your guide will explain many details, so feed your curiosity, and don’t hesitate to ask questions.
Ek Balam in Maya means “Black Jaguar” and offers folks something different. The site covers approximately 15 square kilometers and the core of the site is a walled city containing about 40 structures. Many people visit Chichen Itza and come here looking for another adventure.
What’s different about this ancient city is the shape of the main pyramid and that you can climb into the sky about 96 feet or around eight stories. During your ascent, you will have peace of mind about the amazing structure and surrounding environment. Just touching the pyramid you will feel the energy of the lost Mayan spirits. You are, by all means, stepping back in time and without a doubt are going to be intrigued.
Our guides will explain the history of Ek Balam and how the population decreased dramatically, they were constantly under attack by opposing tribes. There are several theories of why it was eventually abandoned. The land ultimately belonged to some Spanish landowners and was eventually dominated by an aristocratic family, Cupul. You will have free time to go about the park on your own for 45 minutes once you finish with the guided tour.
After your visit to Ek Balam, we will take you to RIO LAGARTOS where you will feast your eyes on the Flamingos in the PINK lake and you will have a chance to view exotic wildlife.
It’s recommended to have a complete meal before the tour and bring your favorite snacks if you wish.
